Dental Implants

Dental implants are metal posts or frames that are surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath your gums and are used to replace missing teeth.  Dental implants have the ability to make a difference in your smile as well as boost your confidence.  With advances in technology, our doctors at Evans Dental Care use implants to replace a single tooth or to replace an entire arch. In order to receive implants, you must have healthy gums and adequate bone structure to keep the implant in place.

The following are just a handful of benefits that make dental implants an investment worth considering:

  • Dental implants restore smile aesthetics

  • Boost confidence

  • Allow you to eat foods that are difficult or impossible with missing teeth or dentures

  • Allow you to follow your usual oral care routine

Pediatric Dentistry

Evans Dental Care is proud to serve the families from our community, and we want them to know it’s just as important for children to have regular dental visits.  A child’s first dental visit should be scheduled between when the first baby tooth appears, and the child’s first birthday.  Baby teeth eventually come out, but their growth and development is important for overall oral health for the child and the development of their adult teeth. Baby teeth should be brushed and cared for like adult teeth, and it’s important to monitor their growth and development.

Missing any tooth for too long can change the development of surrounding teeth and compromise the structure of the jaw bone, but regular checkups can keep a child’s tooth development right on track.  Our dentists are skilled and experienced in administering dental care to children.  If your child has seems nervous about seeing a dentist for the first time, we recommend going through a brushing routine with them at home, and talking about the dental visit before you arrive.  Once we get your child’s oral health off to a great start, we offer a full range of services for child patients including dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants.

We love to see good oral hygiene habits formed early, and make lifetime patients out of kids from our community!  To learn more about the services we offer, visit www.evansdentalcare.com for more information. To schedule an appointment at Evans Dental Care in Williamsburg, VA, call 757-349-8877.

Teeth Whitening

Keeping teeth white is easier said than done. With all of the coffee, wine, and foods that have the ability to stain our teeth on a daily basis, even proper maintenance sometimes leaves them a little lackluster. A tooth whitening is an excellent way to revive your smile and restore the natural color of your teeth or possibly make them whiter. At Evans Dental Care, we utilize a tray system that is designed to put the confidence back into your smile.

Teeth whitening trays are one of the many options available to whiten yellow teeth. At Evans Dental Care, this tray whitening system is completed in two steps. The first step is to make an impression of your teeth. With this impression, our doctors can produce custom whitening trays that can be used more than once. Finally, you will take the whitening gel and utilize it over a period of a few days.

White Spot Lesions

Have you ever noticed glazed, unusually white patches developing on your teeth? They may be the first sign of decay. At Evans Dental Care in Williamsburg, we want our patients to be aware of when their body is signaling that it needs more help fighting incipient dental lesions, also known as white spots.

Acid is a by-product of bacteria eating food debris. It gets stuck in plaque, the sticky film covering teeth. As enamel is exposed to acid, it begins losing minerals. This causes it to look discolored and chalky in texture, as can also be seen in people with acid reflux. But while acid reflux mainly appears on the upper back teeth, erosion from decay can usually be found in places that are hard to brush, such as near the gum line and around orthodontic brackets.

White spots develop in as little as a month, but patients can halt their progress by improving their brushing. Teeth cannot regrow lost enamel mass, but they can remineralize. If a white spot does not disappear after the infection has been killed, we can discuss options such as masking it with a veneer.

Filling Replacement

Replacing old fillings is a standard part of maintaining oral health, and at Evans Dental Care in Williamsburg, we’re particularly interested in biocompatible dentistry. To spare our patients discomfort, we want them to be able to recognize when a filling needs to be replaced.

Fillings replace parts of the enamel that have been drilled away. While patients are numbed during the drilling, it is normal for them to feel tender for a few days afterward. But if the patient has difficulty closing their teeth together or the filling appears to be leaking, it needs to be reshaped as soon as possible.

The bonding that is used to cement fillings in place lasts for about ten years. After that, it cracks, providing bacteria with a place to feed and cause more decay. Patients should have old fillings replaced before this happens, but we also urge patients to get fillings replaced sooner if they are made of amalgam. This material contains mercury, and besides being unattractive, it is also unhealthy. Our office is equipped to remove mercury safely and replace it with white-colored resin. The process of replacing a filling also provides dentists with an opportunity to see whether the enamel covered by the filling has cracked.
